Our team and distribution partners across the United States came together today to enjoy a virtual tasting of the 2022 vintage prestigious wines offered by Maison Albert Bichot.

This virtual event is an extension of their efforts to showcase the new vintage. The Domaine du Pavillon Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is among one of the powerful white wines in this year’s vintage offering. Wines tasted during the virtual event include: Rochegrès Moulin-a-Vent, Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos, Beaune Clos de l’Ermitage, and more.

A few words about the 2022 vintage from Matthieu Mangenot, Technical Director:

Following the 2021 vintage, which was affected by significant losses due to spring frosts, 2022 marks the return of quality grapes in sufficient quantities.

Overall, 2022 was the hottest year on record since the beginning of the 20th century, as well as the driest and sunniest. Extremely favorable conditions allowed us to bring in a very healthy harvest that began as early as August 18th. Even if 2022 is one of the very ripe vintages like those of 2018, 2019 and 2020, the elegance of this vintage, the freshness of the whites, the silkiness of the reds’ tannins and the restraint in the wines’ structures may come as a surprise, given such abnormal and extreme weather conditions.

The organic viticultural practices that have been used at our estates for numerous years now contribute to reinforcing deeper rooting of the vines, thereby guaranteeing that they can better withstand more extreme conditions. These practices work in synergy with the steps we take throughout the vinification and ageing processes to best allow the character of the different terroirs to shine through.

From the limestone soils of Saint-Chinian, the Syr

From the limestone soils of Saint-Chinian, the Syrah and Grenache grapes are grown on organic vines, manually harvested at optimum maturity. Selected and fermented in small tanks for 30-40 days with very smooth extractions and aged in barrels. The complexity of jammy red fruits, toffee, and bergamot with the strong and smooth tannins of the Grenache, give this wine a lasting flavor.

The Château de Ciffre Saint-Chinian Terroirs d’Altitude is perfectly paired with grilled meats, cassoulet, barbecues, poultry, and strong cheese.

The spirit of Pennautier, l’Esprit de Pennautier

The spirit of Pennautier, l’Esprit de Pennautier, is an emblematic cuvee born from grapes grown on the sunny and rocky slopes of the southern Montagne Noire, where limestone and clay blend together, combining Mediterranean warmth, Atlantic influence, and mountain freshness. The grapes - Grenache, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Merlot - create a symphony that exhibits intense and complex aromas of fresh fruit, tobacco, sweet spices and woody essences. Elegant palate with aromas of cooked fruit, caramel, and liquorice. Beautiful length and depth.

Pairing recommendation: Confit lamb shank or venison fillet with porcini mushroom sauce.
